Frequently Asked Questions
“Does NAM do its own refining?”
N
o, NAM controls the quality of the refining process done by the top refiners in the world. By having our experienced representatives present at every phase of the refine process we control the quality of every job we do. And by using the services of the most efficient refiners in the world we pay less to get you metal refined. That simple formula means that by working with NAM, you get the best value for your refining dollar.
Maybe having a physical plant was necessary in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In today’s world, it’s not. There’s so much refining capacity in the world that NAMs business is highly sought after. One gains no benefit from owning a refinery. Decades of experience in refining gives us the knowledge and understanding of every step in the refining process. When you want to buy a car, you go to a dealership, not the factory. When you want to buy clothes, you go to a store, not the clothing plant. When you want the services of a refining company, you don’t have to go to a refinery, you can go to a refining services company.
“Our current refiner uses an x-ray machine to assay our lots and says they are very accurate. Why is a fire assay better?”
X
rays are simply not as accurate as a fire assay in determining the fine metal content of your lot. Fire assays has always been the “gold” standard and is the industry standard according to the American Society for Testing and Materials. With the high price of gold per troy ounce, the discrepancy of an x-ray analysis can result in hundreds if not thousands of dollars left on the table.
“But an x-ray only takes a few minutes while a fire assay can take days or weeks. What if I can’t wait that long?”
A
fire assay or other chemical analysis on traditional karat scrap can be done in a few hours, not days or weeks as some refiners may claim. We provide same day fire assay results so that you don’t have to compromise accuracy for a fast settlement.
